Poverty In My Eyes.

April 9th, 2008 by 5thgrade

I think poverty is when you are having a hard time keeping food on the table. I hope all of you can keep food on your table. I do not think poverty is people sitting on the street begging for money or food. I do not see that in Montrose because we would help our friends and families. Is there a problem of proverty in Montrose? I hope not!! If so we need to all work together and make this problem go away.

    Josie,
Thanks for thinking about what makes poverty in our town. There probably aren’t people in Montrose who do not have food on the table. But, do you think there are people who maybe don’t eat enough of the right foods? Maybe you remember last summer, some of our community members started a Community Garden in Montrose. They grew fresh vegetables (tomatoes, corn, potatoes, carrots, beans, etc.) and shared it with people in our town. What a great way to share and provide people with healthy, fresh food. We’re going to be doing it again this summer, so watch for some wonderful food from the garden showing up in downtown Montrose. If you’d ever like to help, these gardeners could always use some young hands ready and willing to weed or help harvest!

    Thanks,
    Connie Smith

Josie, thank you for writing on Poverty. I too everyone in Montrose has enough to eat and like Connie said, I hope it is the right food. Let’s all work together and make Montrose the best town around. I hope to meet you someday. Thanks for writing.
