New Businesses Hit Montrose!!!!!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Hi,
If I could have a new business in Montrose,I would have a fancy restraunt. Then many people would have to work there. Then the visitors would bring their children. I would make down stairs a smoke free area for the kids and parents. Then they might see the beauty of Montrose. The customers traveling through could see our quiet town of Montrose. It is a kind community, and a safe one to raise children, to build a house, and the town has two contruction businesses to help with the move. They could live in Montrose.

New Businesses Hit Montrose!!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

If I could pick a new business to be in Montrose I would like a new movie theatre! This business could bring more and more people to the little town of Montrose to watch new movies in theatres. When people come to see new movies they might even venture around town too. They would maybe want to have a job in Montrose or even put their childeren in school here. Our school could have a bigger roll of students. Kids in school could make many new friends. Even the businesses around town could have more business and make more money. I hope to see a great improvement in getting more and more businesses around the town of Montrose! Everyone keep working hard!

New Businesses Hit Montrose!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I feel Montrose is a good place for a new attraction. We all have been working hard to get more people to join our community. Montrose should add a mall to the main street. It may attract more people and our community won’t have to go all the way to Sioux Falls for clothes and other items. People who don’t have jobs and would prefer one could come to the mall and apply for jobs. My mom and I would probably come to Montrose every weekend.

New Businesses Hit Montrose!!!!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Montrose is a good town that needs some improvements. Take the pool,it needs work on the siding. The town needs a few new businesses like a shopping store!!I am a girl who loves the regular girl accesories!! I’m sure that all the town needs to pull people in a new business searching for employees. I know it’s a little girly, but I won’t need to go to Souix Falls anymore!! My mom hates the traffic in Souix Falls, she always wishes we could go somewhere different. I think I know how all you other moms hate the traffic, too. So let this be a sign to the city,WE NEED A SHOPPING MALL!!!!!

Resources in our own Backyard

Friday, February 15th, 2008

A group of us recently attended a meeting hosted by Horizons in Forestburg. The meeting dealt with economics (how to determine if a new business will succeed based on county income levels, demographics, multipliers, etc.), starting up a new business and entrepreneurship. By the end of the meeting, I think everyone in the room had some creative wheels turning. Dr. Larry Swain spoke on entrepreneurship, and I could have listened to him all night. His enthusiasm, zest for big thinking and encouraging words were extremely motivating. Dr. Swain is an amazing man who has helped people in 26 different countries start up businesses using the resources available to them. He emphasizes that here in South Dakota, we have many things that people all over the world desire: clean air, beautiful scenary, friendly people, safe neighborhoods, homegrown agriculture, fresh produce, bountiful hunting and fishing…the list goes on. He urged us all to capitalize on the things that make us great. Several things came to mind that could be successful here in Montrose, including a hunting lodge, a Montrose Farmer’s Market, “homegrown” Internet businesses and organic/naturally grown agricultural products–a big trend sweeping the country right now. I wish more people from Montrose could have heard Dr. Swain. He had some great principles for growing a business, including my favorite: “If It Ain’t Broke, Break It!” He meant that we often get caught up in doing things the same old way, and sometimes if we step back and go at it a different way, we find amazing growth and success. If anyone out there is thinkinig of starting a business, we have some great resources at our disposal, including insight from Dr. Swain, economic models provided by SDSU and help with writing a marketing/business plan. Think BIG Montrose!

Montrose On The Move

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

I was fortunate to have attended Seminar #1 on Regional Collaborations & Community Foundations. Our Guest were members of Horizon 1, they represented Timber Lake & Isabel and gave a presentation on the success & challenges of collaborating between communities. They provided many exciting ideas on how to get communities motivated and how to open up new avenues of employment. I also was impressed with Mr. Noel Hamiel of The South Dakota Community Foundation and how a Community Savings Account can generate funds that are reinvested back into the Community. I was also very much impressed with the many people from small towns like ours and the give and take of Ideas. I am fired up to get things going. GO MONTROSE.

5th Graders Tell It All!

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

These wonderful letters from fifth grade students are shining examples of how young people see Montrose. Now we know why so many residents are getting involved through Horizons and other avenues to make Montrose the best community it can be. Good job Kiddos. And thank you, Ms. Jandl, for giving your students the blogging assignment. What a great way to show community pride. It is evident that Montrose is “On The Move”. I believe you have some future Montrose leaders in the making.

We Love Our City!!

In this passage I am going to tell you about the people in it. I feel like Montrose is a family in one. My neighbors make me feel like a family too. I have lived in Montrose all my life! People throughout the community have set a great example for me. In the small village of Montrose I feel ao safe and secure. I love getting involed in the events around the community especially sports events! I hope the Montrose Swimming Pool will have many great improvements on the remodeling. I love living in Montrose!!

We Love Our City!!

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

I love this city of Montrose. One of the best things about this town is the people and the friendliness that this town has to offer. I also enjoy the activities and fun things to do in this town like going to and doing the sports this town offers. It’s also neat to be able to know everyone in this town because this isn’t a very big town. Montrose is a great town and I’m proud to live here.
