New Faces–New Places

November 5th, 2007 by connies

It’s been great to have some new faces–and new ideas–attending our strategic planning meetings. We need their input and fresh perspective. An example, Betty G. came and provided great input from the perspective of the school board. She also shared her passion for establishing a Montrose Community Foundation. That’s a wonderful idea that had not yet been shared. Kandi W. has information on possible funding assistance for a skate park. We’ll need that as we put down specific implementation steps for our community plan. And we had young people come to share their ideas of what they’d like to see in our community, and voice some of their concerns. We’re pleased that Horizons has provided a forum to share those dreams. Our next step is to come up with practical ways to implement them. Again, a thank you to everyone who is taking the time to contribute to this effort.

It’s wonderful that some of your young people are coming to the meetings to share their ideas and concerns about the community. This offers a new perspective and they truly have some of the best ideas! The Sanborn Central Horizons program has been exploring ways to get our town and school officials involved with the Horizons program. We would be open to any ideas or suggestions you have to get more people involved in the program.

    Dawna,
Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. One reason these youth attended was that their parents brought them! They then got put on committees. We also got a school board member, the superintendent and some teachers involved–some by specifically letting them know that their input was needed and that they’d make great contributors to the plan. And they have all brought a great dynamic to the conversation and ideas. Have you tried direct and in-person invites?

Thanks for your response. We have tried those things, but we’ll just have to try harder. It seems that people are willing to help out if they are asked, but they just don’t like attending the meetings (even if we have food and door prizes!). We have our celebration event tonight and we’re hoping for a big turnout.

I’ll let you know how it goes…

    Dawna

Well, Sanborn Central’s celebration event was held on November 17th. Although we would have liked to see more people in attendance, we did get quite a few people signed up to help on each of the individual committees. Good luck with your celebration, Montrose!!
